CONGRATULATIONS DENNIS LAMBERT AND BRIAN POTTER!

October 12, 2010

CONGRATULATIONS TO MY FRIENDS, DENNIS LAMBERT AND BRIAN POTTER WHO HAVE JUST BEEN NOMINATED FOR INDUCTION INTO THE SONGWRITERS HALL OF FAME. Dennis e-mailed me.

Artie…I’ve just been notified that I’ve been nominated, along with Brian Potter,  for induction into the SONGWRITERS HALL OF FAME for the year 2011.  This is too much great news for any one guy in so short a time !!

We’ll be on the ballot that goes out to voting members sometime in late October.  If you’re a member, please consider us and support our nomination if you think the body of our work is worthy. If you’re not a member, the requirements for voting membership are rather simple and non-specific.  This is what the Director of Marketing and Communications for the Songwriters Hall of Fame had to say about membership in the voting category:

    Hi Artie,

Gotta love the way you Freddy & The Dreamers’ songwriters stick together! Side 1 of the group’s “Do The Freddie” LP features “Do The Freddie” from Dennis Lambert and “In My Baby’s Arms” from Artie Wayne.

Here in Rhode Island and SE Massachusetts we are blessed to live among people of Portuguese and Cape Verdean descent. From this community the Tavares Brothers emerged in the 70s as one of the premier r&b acts. For me, their greatest song was “It Only Takes a Minute”, written by Dennis Lambert and delivered by the group with flawless up-tempo harmonies. It did not surprise me that the UK boy band, Take That, took the same song into the UK top-10 in 1992 and it was probably the song that got their phenomenally successful UK career in gear.

I also loved Lambert and Potter’s work with the Righteous Brothers and the Grass Roots in the 70s. “The Runway” from the Grass Roots is a much underrated 45.

I do not know who is in the Songwriters’ Hall Of Fame but these guys definitely need to be there.
