Over the last year, since I’ve been on FACEBOOK, I’ve been amused, angered, touched, and inspired by the postings of my FACEBOOK friend Dan S. White especially some of his own quotable quotes. I asked him to put together this edition of “QUOTES WORTH REMEMBERING” which include some of his favorites as well as his own creations.

I’ve had the pleasure of seeing many of Dan’s quotes on both his Facebook and Twitter feeds, and I’m always impressed with their wisdom; truly they are words to live by. Thank you so much for spotlighting Dan and his writing. As a fellow writer myself, I really appreciate it! Dan, keep on doing whatcha do; you are truly an inspiration. 🙂

Artie, glad you featured a bit of Dan’s work, as I was not familiar with him.
Dan, could you clear up my confusion: I’ve seen the last quote on Artie’s list before, attributed to Carl W. Buechner & Maya Angelou. No disrespect intended, just curious. Sometimes more than one person independently authors a similar truism.

Alan, I’ve seen that same quote attributed to Maya Angelou, Malcom Forbes and Carl Buechner. After a long-term Google search, statistics support Angelou as the original source. I believe she even read that passage from one of her books years ago, when on an Oprah show appearance.
It’s easy for a person who shared a quote often to be assumed as the origin of the quote and it may well be it is one of Dan White’s favorites to quote in speeches. Sounds like a redux of the famous Marianne Williamson quote (“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure…”.) that was forever being attributed to Nelson Mandela, because he cited it in one of his addresses…I even saw that printed and attributed to Mandela on the inside of a wedding program because of its beautiful message.
I don’t know who originated the quote, “No one person is as smart as all of us,” but it’s a favorite of mine, and seems never more true than here.

I believe that it’s really NOT about the author who wrote or thought of a quote or saying, it’s all about the message within the quote. The author is just to give credit, but the message is still the message, no matter how we translate it, how it’s taken in perspective or context or vice versa.
