ANDY WARHOL “DOUBLE ELVIS” SELLS FOR $37 MILLION DOLLARS!

May 10, 2012

The hottest ticket in town was the ANDY WARHOL show at the Museum of Modern Art, in NYC. Rather than wait in long lines, my friend Rock journalist Lita Eliscu, surprised me and took me over to meet her friend Andy, at the Factory, his studio where he created some of his best works of art.

“From 1963 to 1968, the post-war Pop Art world partied at artist Andy Warhol’s mid-town New York City studio known as The Factory.231 East 47th Street was where Warhol and his cohorts – artists, poets, porn stars, musicians, drug addicts and his “Superstars” – created his silkscreens and lithographs and his films, and it became the center of the Hip Universe”*.

As Lita, Andy and I sat in his carnivorous studio, sipping tea, I listened to their stories about mutual friends while drinking in the incredible art work that was hung here and there on the wall. Andy offered to take us on a short tour of the studio, and while walking into a new area and was stopped in my tracks when I saw “DOUBLE ELVIS’” that was sold last Wednesday for 37 million dollars!

I knew Lita at Penn and I’d really like to get in touch. Last I saw her was in LA around ’73 or so. She was living with a cameraman named Jac Yager.
