WAS MICHAEL JACKSON A SUICIDE?

A friend of mine asked me if I thought that Michael Jackson was, “so fearful of his upcoming shows in the UK, that he took more pain killers than usual to shut out the thought of competing with younger video versions and “Accidentally on purpose” killed himself. Then he asked if I thought Michael would make the “ultimate sacrifice” to increase the value of his estate for his family, to satisfy his creditors, and to become an icon who never grows old?”

I snapped back, “Are you crazy? Michael was all about life, even with all of the prescription drugs he was taking, including Propofol, Oxycontin and Demerol. Even with the risk of the deadly side effects, including suicide impulses, I believe that his spirit was strong enough to prevail!

THE TOP, THE BEST, AND THE GREATEST MICHAEL JACKSON VIDEOS which were shot during some of the most difficult time in his life. There is an honesty and innocence I see in his face and demeanor that I’m sure most of his fans will recognize, which is why we’ve stood behind him all these years.

I knew him slightly in this life and will continue to be inspired by him from the next.

THE POWER OF PRAYER AND THE COLLECTIVE CONSCIOUSNESS!

We’ve all seen the unbridled enthusiasm of a crowd at a sporting event propel an athlete into making an impossible score. That’s what it’s like when THE POWER OF PRAYER AND THE COLLECTIVE CONCIOUSNESS comes into our lives.

I’ve seen it surge through all people regardless of race, color, or religious beliefs, allowing them to accomplish things that they never would’ve imagined.                                                                          

Now in the time of the quickening, we must rely on it more and more if we are to survive.

Earlier this week, before having a stem cell procedure, I wanted to tap into the collective consciousness for help. As I was planning to contact my friends around the world and ask for their prayers…that’s when my internet went down!

For 36 hours I nervously waited for it to be restored, while my doctor’s appointment drew closer. Only 3 or four people even knew that I was having the controversial, cutting edge procedure that could possibly help me walk again, because I didn’t want to worry anyone.

About an hour before I had to leave, thank God the internet went back up. I didn’t have time to email hundreds of people on my mailing list, so I did the next best thing. I posted this on facebook…

“IN ABOUT AN HOUR I’M HAVING A STEM CELL PROCEDURE (FROM MY OWN ADULT CELLS NOT EMBRYOS) AND I COULD USE A FEW PRAYERS…THANKS.”

In a matter of minutes, dozens of comments started coming in and I could feel the love and light of God and the collective consciousness enveloping me.

Now as I sit here healing five days later, I can’t thank everyone enough for the prayers and good thoughts you sent me. I don’t want to appear greedy, but I could use a few more to get me through this extraordinarily painful ordeal. I promise to do the same for you whenever you need it.

CAN YOUTUBE SAVE THE MUSIC BUSINESS?

Every time I see a video by Lady GaGa, Justin Beiber, or Katy Perry and their millions of views on YouTube I wonder how much each of them are getting paid per play. I’m not so naïve that to believe that videos are just for promotion. I know that everybody is treated differently and it’s about time  somebody speaks up about a money making machine that could save the entire music business!

Why can’t YouTube spread the wealth a little and give smaller artists, writers, and publishers a chance to participate in the gold rush?

Ironically, I was prompted to write this article by what happened to me with one of my songs “LITTLE CHRISTMAS TREE” (CLINTON, JR./WAYNE) by one of the biggest artists in the world, Michael Jackson. Last Christmas there were 27 different videos using my song up on YouTube, including Michael’s son Blanket’s version using his private family photos. The total views of all the versions were over a half a million and how much did I make out of it? NOTHING! NOT ONE PENNY!

I believe that videos can be the salvation of the music business, breathing new life into copyrights and perpetuating music that we love for generations to come, but it’s not going to be at my expense!Fortunately, I have quite a few friends who feel like I do and over the next few weeks you’re going hear a lot more about the brewing controversy and what we’re going to do about it!

In the meantime, I asked several friends of mine what they think about the future of music videos.

Russ Terrana, engineer or mixer of 89 #1 records for Motown, says, “it’s amazing the buzz you generated when you put up the MOTOWN VIDEO JUKEBOX. Artists, producers and musicians are reminded of great songs that are seldom played on the radio. What music publisher wouldn’t be thrilled to have a new way to get their their copyrights exposed?”

Russ…You’d be surprised!

RECONNECT WITH FRIENDS FOR FREE!

EVER SINCE I STARTED BLOGGING AND POSTING ON FACEBOOK WHEN MY OLD FRIENDS SEE THE NAMES OF MUTUAL OLD FRIENDS MANY RECONNECTIONS HAVE BEEN MADE! A COUPLE OF DAYS AGO I SPOKE TO AN OLD FRIEND WHO RETIRED AND BOUGHT HIS OWN ISLAND 25 YEARS AGO!

WE CONSOLED EACH OTHER ON THE RECENT PASSING OF SO MANY OF OUR MUSIC BUSINESS FRIENDS AND HOW WE MIGHT GET BACK WITH THOSE WHO ARE ALIVE AND KICKING! THREE DAYS LATER I WAS  ABLE TO GET HIM BACK IN TOUCH WITH TWO LOST FRIENDS!

“I first met Jackie DeShannon back in 1964, when she was on tour with The Beatles. We had talked on the phone a few times after I cut a couple of her songs with Joey Powers (“Midnight Mary”) and we arranged to get together when she got to New York.

We hit it off immediately, with our mutual love of music, dancing and art museums. I was going to show her “My New York,” but she wound up showing me hers. That world included after hour jam sessions in Greenwich Village with Dave Van Ronk, John Hammond Jr. and Tom Paxton.

My first (and only) single for Liberty Records, “Where Does A Rock and Roll Singer Go (When His Record’s Off The Charts)?” had just bombed out and I was discouraged with the music business in the States. Jackie suggested that I go to London (where I had just scored a top ten hit with “Queen For Tonight” by Helen Shapiro) in November, 1964, when she would be there promoting her latest single. Once again I was swept away to her galaxy, becoming friends with one of her co-writers, Jimmy Page, watching her perform on “Ready, Steady, Go!!” and going on several stops of the Beatles promo tour for “Beatles For Sale.”

Jackie and I never dated, but we hung out a lot, until a misunderstanding (too petty to remember) threatened our relationship and we hadn’t spoken in a month. Then, the day after I had open heart surgery (back in N.Y.), she called me from a recording studio to see how I was. She had the engineer play the backing track she was working on….and sang “What The World Needs Now Is Love” to me over the phone. I can’t tell you how much that meant to me….but I actually made medical history by walking around 36 hours after my operation!”

WHEN I WANTED A PICTURE OF JACKIE TO USE IN MY FORTHCOMING BOOK, “I DID IT FOR A SONG”, I FOUND ONE THAT I TOOK OF HER AROUND THE SAME TIME “PUT A LITTLE LOVE IN YOUR HEART” WAS RELEASED. I ALSO DISCOVERED THAT IT WAS USED AS THE COVER OF A CD IN THE UK!
