SONGWRITER SPOTLIGHT

Since the early 60′s, Burt Bacharach has been one of the most innovative and influencial figures in popular music. His unique melodies and signature rythyms also made him one of the most imitated musicians of all times. With various lyricists, he racked up an early array of hits that included, “Tower Of Strength”, “Baby It’s You”, “The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance”, “Any Day Now”, “Only Love Can Break A Heart”, “Blue On Blue”, “Anyone Who Had A Heart” and “Walk On By”.

I always felt a thrill just to be in his presence! I would see him at a party or a music business function and go over and introduce myself. This happened so often that after about the fifth or sixth time I did it, he stopped me, smiled and said, “I know…I know you’re Artie Wayne!” This not only made me feel good, but I felt validated!

He was not only a musical role model, but a personal one as well. He was probably one of the coolest people I’ve ever known, with his sunglasses on top of his premature white hair he always seemed to be dressed for a tennis game or a polo match! I also noticed all of the beautiful women that would fawn over him and it made me realize that you didn’t have to be a Rock Star to get that kind of attention!

In 1963, after I had my first hit as a songwriter and producer, “Meet Me At Midnight Mary” ( Raleigh/ Wayne) with Joey Powers, I called up Burt to see if he had any songs for the follow-up. I met him in his office at Famous music, in the Brill Building and he played me a new song he and Hal David had written, “Message To Martha” (which later became a smash in the UK by Adam Faith and a hit in the US by Dionne Warwick, re-titled, “Message To Michael”)

I loved the song, but I thought it was a bit too complex for Joey Power’s simple folk musical direction we were taking. I felt really weird turning down the song, but Burt was cool and said don’t worry about it. A few months later, I ran into him on my first trip to London, where he was the musical director on Marlena Dietrich’s concert tour, we had a drink and laughed about my embarrasment over turning down one of his songs.

The next time I saw him was in 1965, I was signed to Scepter records publishing company, as a songwriter and producer. I was encouraged to use the studio as often as I wanted for overdubbing and making demos of my songs to help break-in the studio. I produced or co-produced The Shirelles , The Kingsmen and the Guess Who, there which made the owner, Florence Greenberg, more confident in her new facility. At that point, she offered Burt Bacharach and Hal David, a chance to try her new, improved studio out.

I remember Burt and Hal had trouble mixing Dionne Warwick’s, “Are You There With Another Girl” at the original studio where they cut the track, and they decided to try out Scepter. I remember being in my office the day of the “Great New York City Blackout “…when the lights all over our building were dimming then getting brighter! Burt and Hal, after mixing for hours, ran out of the studio screaming, ” What the Hell’s going on ? We almost had it…We almost had the mix! Then machine started slowing down then stared speeding up!”

Tempers cooled, when we looked out the window and saw lights in the entire city dim…then go black! Florence’s son Stanley, who was head of A+R, as well as being totally blind from birth, yelled out, “Don’t worry, I’ll get us all out of here…JUST FOLLOW ME!”

About 20 of us, with Stanley leading the pack, managed to get down several flights of stairs, in total darkness, safely and without incident. It was an event that I’m sure none of us will never forget!

FORGIVENESS

As Patti Dahlstrom and I spoke a few days ago about the power and need for forgiveness in our personal lives and in the world at large, I thought it might be time to bring this concept to Artie Wayne on the Web. Patti assisted me in gathering a beginning to this conversation. I welcome you thoughts and contributions to a 2nd edition on Forgiveness. Perhaps you have a personal or favorite story or spiritual quote about forgiveness in your life. I look forward to hearing from you and perhaps it will become a regular column here to help support each other in remembering this humbling behavior.

      Patti:

I am very blessed to know these men quoted here, Mick Brown and Colin Tipping. They are both English, brilliant, talented authors of many books. Their spiritual curiosity has led them down fascinating paths. Asking for input on forgiveness, they graciously complied with a story and an understanding of this extremely profound act, so necessary in this world. LInks are provided, if you are interested in more information about the work of these men.

Forgiveness

From Mick Brown:

When Tibetans escape from Tibet into India, to escape the Chinese oppression in their country, the first thing they always do is make their way to Dharamsala, to be in the presence of the Dalai Lama. The Dalai Lama tells the story of one elderly monk who had been imprisoned by the Chinese for a number of years, and been subjected to all manner of indignities and torture, including having electric cattle prods pushed in his mouth.

You must have had many fears, the Dalai Lama said to the monk.

He replied. “My greatest fear was that I would lose my compassion for the Chinese.”

Artie:
THERE ARE TIMES IN OUR LIVES WHEN WE MUST LET GO OF PAINFUL MEMORIES AND EXPERIENCES THAT HAVE BEEN HOLDING US BACK. HERE IS A EASY WAY TO GET STARTED TO MOVE FORWARD AGAIN… THROUGH COLIN TIPPING’S RADICAL FORGIVENESS.

 RADICAL FORGIVENESS
If you harbor a grievance that you want rid of quickly and easily, or you’re holding onto some anger about something that’s giving you a lot of pain then Radical Forgiveness is what you need. It really works and the results are amazing. Unlike conventional forgiveness which is difficult and takes forever, Radical Forgiveness is easy and fast acting. The tools simply dissolve the pain and leave you feeling peaceful and happy. The long-term benefits of Radical Forgiveness are better health, more energy, improved relationships, more prosperity, greater happiness, a lot more peace in your life, and so on.

To give you a little bit of background as to how Radical Forgiveness evolved, in the early 90s I was a therapist working with cancer patients. I needed to find a way to help them release the toxic emotions they had buried deep down in their subconscious minds that may have contributed to the formation of their disease process. This obviously called for forgiveness but we knew that conventional forgiveness took too long and was far too difficult. We recognized that it needed a form of forgiveness that was quick, easy to do,

In a nutshell Radical Forgiveness asks us to be open to the idea that, without exception, everything that happens to us in life is all part of a divine plan and meant to happen the way it does.  In that sense, from the spiritual standpoint, there is nothing to forgive.  Just being open to this idea is enough. Your own Spiritual Intelligence does the rest.  By expressing your willingness to entertain this possibility you shift the energy around the story of what happened and releases it from your body. You don’t even have to know how it works. The tools and processes it provides do it all for you.

Colin Tipping is the author of “Radical Forgiveness, A Revolutionary 5 Stage Process for Finding Peace in Any Situation” and many other books.
His Website is www.colintipping.com.

As part of my dissertation research for a Professional Writing Masters Degree from a London University in 2009, I interviewed an Anglican Priest in St. John’s Wood.
This is part of that interview.

Forgiveness

Patti Dahlstrom

Forgiving is hard. Speaking to Father Anders, a priest at the St. John’s Wood Anglican Church in London, I asked him what forgiveness is and why it is so difficult to do. “I‘ve gone round and round on this,” he said, “still I think forgiveness is when there is some kind of letting go inside yourself of a negative hold that a past betrayal has upon you; in forgiveness a past event ceases to have a hold on you.”
When I stated that people feel justified in their anger, Father Anders replied, “I know they do because they find their identity in their anger. That anger is reinforcing their sense of self. But they are not free; they are enslaved by that anger. Being released from that clutch so you are free is what you see in Jesus. He is incredibly free in Himself because He won’t let those resentments catch hold of him.”
It is their justification that is the tricky part. If someone has done something in word or deed to consciously hurt us, then we feel we have the “right” to be angry. Yes, but what does being “right” get one?

The minute people say, “I’m victimized” then one takes oneself out of all the bounty that is available. “You put yourself in a place that’s hard for redemption to happen, in a place in relation to evil in the world. That is what God does. God doesn’t protect, He redeems,” Father Anders revealed. Every time we think of the wrong done to us, we reinforce the pain; we re-victimize ourselves again and again turning one slight into multiple slights. And the more we replay that tape of angry thought, the worse we feel, the deeper we drive the pain, pushing it further away from the redemption we need, the freedom we seek.
We all need to forgive for our sakes, for their sakes, and for the very quality of life that is lived when love overcomes anger and hurt.  When we forgive, we release the weight of the wrong. We don’t have to carry that slight, however great or small, anymore. We lay down our burden at the throne of forgiveness. We feel better. We are better.
Being right is a lonely place to be. As long as love is more important than being right, forgiveness will find a way and lead us out of those dark moods of ego and into the welcome light of the spirit, where no one is alone.

The world is full of people. But only a handful of humans. Which one are you? ~ Lakota Proverb

MY FRIEND AND FELLOW ARCHIVIST RONNIE ALLEN JUST EMAILED ME THIS ABOUT HIS UPDATED WEBSITE!

Artie,

Okay …. now you are the first to know!

I am sending this message to you before I inform those on my mailing list.

This is, of course, about an enhancement to the Jersey Girls Sing website.

The Jersey Girls (Denise and Bernadette) and I have just posted our re-designed “Gone But Not Forgotten Page.”

We are very proud of it and are determined to make it one of the best pages of its type on the Internet.

We intend to be very diligent in updating it (as needs arise) on a daily basis. Please note that — as I type this — we do not yet have any 2012 names in the section at the bottom (the non-musical section called “Special Remembrances.”) We will be adding names to that section shortly, probably as early as a few hours from now.

Our webage has some very special features. By clicking a couple of command buttons, you can instantaly sort the material three different ways: chronologically (by recency of passing, which is the default), by first name and by last name.

And yes, your Buddy Saltzman page is what I personally chose chose for his link. That was a no-brainer. Your page is awesome. The fact that there is no Wikipedia page on Buddy is a disgrace but, even if there were, I would still have used your page anyway!

Please feel free to spread the word about the page. Denise and Bernadette and I will appreciate that so very much.

From now until the end of time millions of words will be written about him and his influence in music, dance, and fashion, but the most important gift he has given the world is everlasting hope and inspiration!

Like most of the world I was thrilled with the Jackson Five and Motown’s “”SOUND OF YOUNG AMERICA” when they hit the music scene in the late ‘60s with “I Want You Back”, “ABC”, and “The Love You Save”. When Berry Gordy, Jr. brought the group to Hollywood under the supervision of Suzanne DePasse and Skip Miller I had the rare opportunity to get close to one of the biggest acts in the world, as well as one of the biggest Superstars ever to emerge, Michael Jackson!!

HERE ARE THE GREATEST VIDEOS of MICHAEL JACKSON.

I WANT YOU BACK http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s3Q80mk7bxE

ABC http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=endscreen&NR=1&v=ho7796-au8U

Former Motown V.P. Skip Miller recalls, “I met The Jackson Five in Miami, Fl. in 1970 just before New Years. I was brand new to show business and thought I had died and gone to heaven. Their show was amazing and Michael was unbelievable.

As a young man, he would be playing with toys one minute and asking if they sold the show out the next. He was quite aware of everything that was going on. He had a sixth sense for the business. He was curious about record sales and asked a lot of questions everything. I was too green at the time to give good answers so I would go get the answers and then tell him. In 1975 when the Jacksons were leaving Motown, I escorted Jermaine to Nantucket, New York for their last show as Motown artists.

The brothers and us had many a pillow fight after Michael tricked you into his room. He would go from that to the eight hundred pound guerilla he was on stage. Quite the transformation! He was a truly gifted performed, a great dad, and my friend. I will miss him.”

NEVER CAN SAY GOODBYE http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x9p12c_the-jackson5-never-can-say-goodbye_music?hmz=707265766e657874

Hal Davis (“I’ll Be There”, “Never Can Say Goodbye”, “Dancin’ Machine”) was the first Motown producer that I brought a song to for Michael Jackson to record. I was excited when he cut a track on “I Want To Be Happy”, which I updated from “No, No Nannette” in the Warner Brothers catalog. When I dropped by Motown’s recording studios unexpectedly, I saw Hal Davis putting an unknown Lionel Ritchie on the track!

When he saw me freaking out, he grabbed me and threw me across the control board almost into the lap of engineer Russ Teranna, and threatened me if I dare give the song to anyone else! Of course that prompted me to give it to everyone I knew. Although Hal was pissed off at me, I was back in his good graces when I gave him Jackson Browne’s “Doctor My Eyes”, which went Top Ten in the UK with The J5.

ROCKIN’ ROBIN http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4VCUbL7jsc&feature=related

BEN  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T1dAQN5QcZU

It’s summer of 1973 and Ed Silvers, President of Warner Brothers Music, is losing his patience with me. Although I secure songs in our catalog by some of their biggest artists, they’re only album cuts. Ed is convinced that I’ll never get a single released by Motown.

I know at this point that the only way I could have a chance for a hit and escape the wrath of Ed, is to get a cover by the Jackson 5 or little Michael. There was only one staff writer at Warner Brothers music who could write in a classic R+B style, George S. Clinton, Jr.

I go to the two producers who love George’s writing the most, Jerry Marcellino and Mel Larson, who just had big hits with 12 year old Michael on “Rockin’ Robin” and “Little Bitty Pretty One” (which was my suggestion). They tell me that “Ben”, from the movie of the same name, is racing up the charts and Berry Gordy wants each of his producers to start recording new sides with him.

It’s the middle of summer, about 90 degrees, but we have to get in a Christmas Mood. As I tell George about my break up with my girlfriend last Christmas, I start to throw Ivory Snowflakes around the room. Soon, we have the first verse and chorus of “Little Christmas Tree”

I’m almost in tears when I hear the finished record the following week with the news that it’s being considered for the follow-up to “Ben”, which had just hit number one! You can imagine how I feel a few weeks later when Berry Gordy, Jr. decides not put out any follow up to the Oscar nominated “Ben”, until the Academy Awards are given out…which is after Christmas! A few days later I come up with a plan and present it to Motown. I suggest that the company puts a double albums worth of previously recorded Christmas songs by each of their hit artists, along with “Little Christmas Tree”.and included cuts by Stevie Wonder, The Supremes, The Temptations, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, Diana Ross. They love the idea and release the two disk set in time for the holidays and call it, “A MOTOWN CHRISTMAS”

I stayed in touch with “Papa” Joe Jackson after the Tokyo music festival and when The Jackson Five abruptly left Motown and was short on cash, I helped get him a $25,000 advance for his world wide subpublishing rights…even though Michael and his brothers weren’t writing very much at the time…then a few years later Michael releases his first solo album…”Off The Wall”

OFF THE WALL http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lq3aWW9hcVk&feature=related

Publicist, Bobbi Cowan remembers, “I worked with him during the period just before his first solo album, “Off The Wall” was released. I was out at the Jackson family compound several times with magazine writers. It was the first time he was allowed to give interviews without a Motown person being thee to direct both the questions and answers, so what came out were the thoughtful musings of this boy/child. He was feeling creative stirrings, as he began to be more involved with his music, the writing, the production, the business. My daughter Lori had a massive crush on Michael, so I brought her with me to the house for a couple of those interviews…He was very sweet, gracious, even shot some hoops with her, then the photographer took a photo of her with Michael…she still has the photo and cherishes it to this day.”

Up until now the world-wide subpublishing agreement I helped get “Papa” Joe Jackson get hasn’t paid off for Freddie Bienstock and he blames me for wasting his $25,000. Then when Michael explodes Bienstock claims all of the mega-songs that Michael is currently writing!

Now I also had “Papa” Joe mad at me for helping him get “a paltry $25,000.advance” for the subpublishing of one of the greatest catalogs in the world.

THRILLER http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jQ_ExkfcBao&feature=fvwrelET-Thriller12

In 1984 I was hosting Genghis Cohen, a hot Hollywood Chinese restaurant,  when then Motown A&R man Benny Medina, came in one night for dinner and told me that Motown was releasing some Michael Jackson masters from the vault to capitalize on the success of “Thriller”. You can imagine how I felt when he said that, “Touch The One You Love”, another song I’d written with George Clinton, Jr., which had been in the can for 10 years, was coming out in the “Farewell My Summer Love” love album!

FAREWELL MY SUMMER LOVE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YFoLya5qt1w

TOUCH THE ONE YOU LOVE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NA2cfUUQeJg

In 1983, I held a 6 week seminar called the Artie Wayne Songwriter motivation course. My flyers say that, “I’ll help make your package so strong, that only a fool would turn you down!’. Then I add at the bottom, “Not responsible for all the fools in the industry.”

I can’t take credit for teaching anybody how to write songs, but I’m proud of creating an environment, where novices could rub shoulders with the top artists, writers, and producers in the business.

My friend, Alan O’Day (“Undercover Angel”, “Rock and Roll Heaven”), is musical director for the sold out event. He also brings in, as his guests, several new writers, which includes Diane Warren (who eventually becomes one of the greatest songwriters of this generation) and John Barnes, who goes on to write half of the “Bad” album with Michael Jackson.

BLACK AND WHITE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PtW1O12hIBEProducer Quincy Jones who worked with Michael Jackson on numerous music and film projects, issued the following statement about the passing of the King of Pop:

“…Divinity brought our souls together on ‘The Wiz’ and allowed us to do what we were able to throughout the ’80s. To this day, the music we created together on “Off The Wall”, “Thriller”,“Bad“, and “We Are The World” is played in every corner of the world and the reason for that is because he had it all…talent, grace, professionalism and dedication. He was the consummate entertainer and his contributions and legacy will be felt upon the world forever.

Although I didn’t play much of a part in Michael Jackson’s life, he’s played a major part in mine. From now until the end of time millions of words will be written about him and his influence in music, dance, and fashion, but the most important gift he has given the world is everlasting hope and inspiration.

THE FIRST TIME I HEARD “MACARTHUR PARK” BY RICHARD HARRIS WAS THE FIRST TIME I SERIOUSLY THOUGHT ABOUT MOVING TO CALIFORNIA. I COULDN’T WAIT TO MEET SONGWRITER/ARRANGER/PRODUCER JIMMY WEBB, WHO HAD BROKEN ALL THE RULES WITH THE FIRST OVER SEVEN MINUTE POP RECORD TO HIT #1

Growing up in the turbulent 60′s in the Shadow of the Cold War, wasn’t easy! Growing up in New York of the 60′s, with all the drugs and violence, had an even harder edge. I was tired of writing formula pop songs about made-up experiences in a location that no longer held any fascination for me. My recording career had fizzled out and my marriage was winding down. Although my partner, Kelli Ross and I were running the publishing companies of Quincy Jones, Leslie Gore, Bobby Scott, Janis Ian, Joey Levine and Artie Resnick, my own creativity was suffering from a lack of positive stimulation.

I knew the next musical trend would be coming from the west coast, when I first heard, “Cherish” by the Association” and “California Dreaming”, by the Mamas and Papas…but when I heard “Macarthur Park” by Richard Harris I knew it had arrived!  http://youtube.ng/watch?v=0WHx0B90FUc&feature=fvwrel

Although “Macarthur Park” was seven minutes long, twice the length of any song on the radio at the time, it quickly became number one! The poetry of the lyric and beautiful, psychedelic labyrinth of music gave a shot in the arm to Pop music in general, and to me particular. I took my first trip to Hollywood in the summer of 1968 to get a better understanding of the new emerging music scene …and to get a quickie Mexican divorce.

Jackie DeShannon, took me on a tour of Hollywood and introduced me to the wonders of Malibu Beach. I hung out at the Troubadour and the Whiskey with Bruce Johnston of the Beach Boys and Terry Kirkman of the Association. I went to parties up at Mike Love’s, down at Richard Baskin’s and over at Football Hall Of Famer, Jim Brown’s house. I reunited with my long time songwriting partner, Ben Raleigh ( “Love Is A Hurting Thing”, “Tell Laura I Love Her”) who had recently relocated to California. I also hooked up with my friend Bob Stone, who was once signed to me, as he celebrated his number one record with Cher, “Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves ” I also started writing with Gary Zekely and Mitch Bottler ( “Wait A Million Years”, “Sooner Or Later”), found time to go to a Phil Spector recording session…as well as fall in-and-out of love a couple of times!

It was quite an eventful two weeks, but I still hadn’t met Jimmy Webb, whose music brought me out here in the first place. As my plane took off for New York, “Up, Up and Away” kept running through my mind…I was disappointed, but I knew I’d be coming back.

Jimmy’s songs like, “Didn’t We?”,”The Worst That Can Happen”, “Wichita Lineman”, and “Galveston”, continued to inspire me as I spent my last dreary year in New York. It was two years after moving to the West Coast, however, before I finally met my inspiration!

I was working as General Professional Manager for Warner Brothers Music, when CEO, Ed Silvers, informed me that we now represented Jimmy Webb. I can’t tell you how excited I was to go out to his house in Encino with Warner Brothers Records President, Mo Ostin to hear the final mixes of his latest WB album, and finally meet my hero!

As we waited for Jimmy in his game room, I saw a Las Vegas slot machine in the corner. I put a quarter in and hit the jackpot. Mo smiled…as I hit the jackpot again…again and again! Mo, started glaring at me as I tried to push my winnings back into the machine. Now fully embarrassed, I started kicking hundreds of quarters underneath the living room rug, just as Jimmy walked in laughing…that’s when I realized I was the victim of a practical joke!

I knew I was gonna’ like working with this guy!

Hey, here’s something really stupid and annoying: Facebook abruptly switched everyone’s default email address to the @facebook.com account you’ve never used. Here’s how to switch back Facebook’s obnoxious overreach right now. So people can actually, you know, contact you.

Remember long, long ago, when Facebook launched a Facebook email system and then nobody used it? That’s fine—it was always just an option you were more than welcome to completely ignore. And we did, because we already had Gmail and work inboxes, and didn’t need yet another. If our friends wanted to email us, they could just head to our profiles and have options.
Not today! If you go to your profile (or anyone else’s), you’ll see the @facebook.com email account listed—which just forwards to your Facebook messages inbox—and none of your others. They’ve all been hidden in a ham-handed attempt to make the Facebook inbox relevant.
Luckily, it’s easy to reverse this foolish move. Go to your Timeline. Click about, under your contact info. Scroll down to “Contact Info” and hit edit. Switch all of the crossed out circle symbols to a full circle for each inbox you want visible on your profile. If you don’t want @facebook.com to show up, switch it from a full circle (“Shown on Timeline”) to crossed out (“Hidden from Timeline”). This is also a good opportunity to check your privacy settings and make sure your various inboxes are visible only to friendlies. Hit save.

Facebook: don’t do this again. [Forbes]
Update: A Facebook spokesperson provided the following non-explanation to Reuters:
As we announced back in April, we’ve been updating addresses on Facebook to make them consistent across our site.
In addition to everyone receiving an address, we’re also rolling out a new setting that gives people the choice to decide which addresses they want to show on their timelines.

Ever since the launch of timeline, people have had the ability to control what posts they want to show or hide on their own timelines, and today we’re extending that to other information they post, starting with the Facebook address.
Facebook, it’s probably safe to say that the way we all had our things before was the “choice” we made about “which addresses…show on [our] timelines.” This wasn’t about choice—in fact, it was the opposite. You chose for us.

NEW YORK (AP) — Composer and lyricist Richard Adler, who won Tony Awards for co-writing snappy and infectious, songs for such hit Broadway musicals as “The Pajama Game” and “Damn Yankees” and who staged and produced President John F. Kennedy’s birthday celebration featuring a breathy Marilyn Monroe, has died. He was 90.

Adler died Thursday at his home in Southampton, N.Y., his widow, Susan A. Ivory, said. Some of Adler’s biggest songs are “You Gotta Have Heart,” ”Hey, There,” ”Hernando’s Hideaway,” ”Whatever Lola Wants,” ”Steam Heat,” ”Rags to Riches,” and “Everybody Loves a Lover.”

Adler staged and produced several shows for U.S. presidents, including the unforgettable 1962 extravaganza for Kennedy at Madison Square Garden where Monroe sang “Happy Birthday.” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yl4nNlaCbqw

BUT ENOUGH FRIVOLITY…NOW BACK TO THE MUSIC!

It isn’t very often that I’m shocked at the passing of one of our musical heroes, but when I heard about Michael Jackson I was devastated. I’ve known Michael since he was 12 years old and he recorded a song I co-wrote, “Little Christmas Tree” (Clinton/Wayne)

I met him and his family at the Tokyo Music Festival in 1974, and had a chance to tell him how much I liked his recording of my song. I also told him that he was one of my biggest dance influences, which made him smile considering I was three times his age.

When I told Michael that I was a songplugger and I couldn’t go out dancing late at night like I once did, he said in that high little voice of his, “Artie…why don’t you build a dance floor in your office?”.

As soon as I got back to Hollywood, Warner Brothers Music built me a four foot circular plywood dance floor, but a few months later when I went to run A&Ms publishing company they constructed a six foot mahogany one for me! To this day I’m proud to tell everyone that it was Michael Jackson’s idea.

The last time I was in touch with him was when he was about to do the “Thriller” album. He was holding onto one of my songs for over a year, and even made a few suggestions to improve the bridge, but in the end he didn’t record it. I was still grateful for the opportunity.

From now until the end of time millions of words will be written about him and his influence in music, dance, and fashion, but the most important gift he has given the world is everlasting hope and inspiration!

AND HERE IS MICHAEL’S CROWNING ACHIEVEMENT “WE ARE THE WORLD”         http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AMO4tuhq9eE

When I first went to London in 1965, Bess Coleman – one of the Beatles’ press officers and one of my co-writers – introduced me to Shel Talmy, a five star general in the British invasion of the pop culture. I was anxious to meet the legend who discovered, inspired and produced the WHO, the KINKS, , the EASYBEATS, CHAD and JEREMY. About an hour before I met him, I was shocked to find out that he was a fellow American! When I knocked on his apartment door, in fashionable Knightsbridge, his beautiful assistant led me down a long hallway that was filled on both sides with more gold singles and albums than I’d ever seen in one place! As I sat sipping tea in his office, I heard someone playing a guitar and singing in the other room. The door opened, Shel introduced himself, as well as the singer I heard through the walls, CAT STEVENS, who was there to play a couple of his new songs. Over the years Shel and I became good friends. He was one of the few people I could play a song for and get some good constructive criticism. Here he shares some stories and insights with me in my revealing Spectropop interview. BROOKS ARTHUR REMINDED ME THAT TODAY IS DICK LaPALM’S BIRTHDAY! (pictured here with Tony Bennett)

” Dick LaPalm … Is the dean of recording studio managers & business partners. When I first moved to LA ci1975/76 … The very first recording studio I worked in was Village Recorders. Introduced to me by my dear friend Richard Perry who was Producing Art Garfunkel and I was Richard’s recording engineer. The late Andrew Gold played drums & guitar … Art vocalized “I Only Have Eyes For You” … Dick La Palm would pop into the studio, smile, “loving the groove” and whisper to the tech’s to check a certain piece of gear KNOWING it wasn’t performing to capacity. An eagle eye!

Dick is a jazzer. He appreciated a good groove, no matter the genre. Dick welcomed me in and connected me to the greatest musicians & studio talent.Dick LaPalm also helped to shape the LA CHAPTER OF NARAS! DLP is as much a part of record making as any A&R man, musician, engineer & producer! BRAVO DLP!

Happy Birthday my friend”

BRIAN WILSON CELEBRATES HIS 70th BIRTHDAY BACKSTAGE IN MONTREAL!

By Patrick Doyle  Rolling Stone Magazine

Brian Wilson turned 70 yesterday, but he’s busier than ever. He’s currently zig-zagging across the country on the reunited Beach Boys’ world tour, and the band just released their first album in two decades. So how does Wilson feel about turning 70?

“Are you kidding?” he tells Rolling Stone. “I feel great! I don’t think I look or act 70. I feel more like I’m in my mid-forties.”

Wilson celebrated with a party backstage during a tour stop at Montreal’s Bell Centre, where he was gifted with a cake resembling the album cover to the Beach Boys’ new LP, Thats Why God Made The Radio. As the audience broke into “Happy Birthday,” balloons sent by Wilson’s wife surrounded him onstage. Earlier that day, Wilson received a call from his old buddy Paul McCartney, who celebrated his own 70th birthday two days earlier. “[Paul] said, ‘Happy birthday, friend!” Wilson says. “I said, ‘Happy birthday to you, Paul.’ He told me he was headed into Abbey Road. I told him we were on our way to Montreal. I think he said something like, ‘Can you believe we made it this far?’ It was very pleasant and sweet.’

EXTRA!! “BEATLE” BOB MATONIS POSTED THIS MORNING…

To help celebrate Brian Wilson’s birthday, I’ve selected a rare track – “Can’t Wait Too Long” – that was originally written by Brian and work on from 1967-68 but never officially released until 1990. It’s a mesmerizing and hypnotic track that consists of an elaborate collection of vocal and instrumental tracks comparable to the group’s earlier hit “Good Vibrations”. It includes a main melody line played instrumentally, plus several sections of chorus and a vocal middle section. Totally captivating. <http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nHXGvDP8iLI >

A LOT OF PEOPLE SAY I’M BECOMING AN ALARMIST AND I TELL THEM I’M JUST A CYBER REALIST. READ WHAT HAPPENED TO MY FRIEND CHIYOKO LOUISE GOSSEN…

“I was on Facebook one day, and I see a “message” from one of my FB friends that they saw a sexy video I was in and how surprised they were. That “friend” sent me a link so I could see the video. The first thing I noticed was the typos. Several of them. Then I thought “what sexy video? Or any video, for that matter?”, so I clicked on the link. OMG The virus was almost instantaneous. I had to shut down my computer. It was all messed up. Luckily, at the time, I was teaching at a college, and we had a computer class along with a computer lab where I could get my computer fixed for free. So I took it in. The head computer guy, Jose, was very informative. When I told him about the link I had clicked on, he explained that it was a virus that was being circulated in FB. He said it looks like it’s coming from one of your friends (like it did to me) but it isn’t. He said you could tell that it was a virus by the typos. Needless to say, when I got back on my computer, I immediately posted this info on my FB. And whenever I saw it on FB after that, I would warn everybody again. If I hadn’t been working where I could get my computer fixed for free, I would have ended up paying around $300.”

I’M HAPPY TO REPORT THAT THE THE LITTLE 9 YEAR OLD BOY AND HIS CARETAKER, CAME OVER AND PICKED UP THE COMPUTER, MUSIC PUBLISHER DON WILLIAMS GAVE ME TO GIVE TO HIM. READERS ARE ALWAYS ASKING ME IF I HAVE ANY STORIES ABOUT PHIL SPECTOR? SURE I DO…BUT TODAY I’D LIKE TO TURN YOU OVER TO SOMEBODY WITH EVEN MORE, WHO WORKED WITH PHIL IN THE STUDIO ON SOME OF HIS MOST MEMORABLE SESSIONS! HERE IS MY LONG TIME FRIEND, SINGER/SONGWRITER/PRODUCER/MUSICIAN,TRADE MARTIN, AND MY EXCLUSIVE IN DEPTH INTERVIEW… PART ONE AND PART TWO…TOGETHER FOR THE FIRST TIME…AGAIN! INSIDE A PHIL SPECTOR RECORDING SESSION WITH TRADE MARTIN!

Although I’ve known Trade Martin since he was one of most in demand session guitarists in New York, I didn’t work with him very often because he was always booked up! In addition to being an excellent musician, part of why he became so popular among producers in the 60’s and 70’s was the fact that he was constantly singing and playing in Rock and Roll Bands in the tri-state area and he not only knew how the ever changing hits on top 40 radio sounded…he knew how they were constructed.

The first time I worked with Trade, was in 1964, just before I took my first trip to London. I had become bored with the American Music scene and became enamored of what I heard coming out of the UK. I had written a song with Ben Raleigh (”Tell Laura I Love Her”, “Wonderful, Wonderful”) and Danny Jordan (The Detergents) called, “When She Was What She Was”, which was more of a Gerry and the Pacemakers song than a song for Dion.
When I heard Chip Taylor and Al Gorgoni’s production of a song Trade wrote for Evie Sands, “Take Me For A Little While”, I was overwhelmed by his songwriting abilities which equaled his musical skills!. When we sat down to plan out my session and I played him my song and he added chords and changes I was only hearing on English hits. The tracks turned out great but I was disappointed in my own vocal. When I came back from England I put my vocal on again, this time with a pronounced English accent and sold the master to George Paxton, who owned Coed records where it was released under the pseudonym Terry Boyd. This was the same label where Trade was signed, that released his classic “That Stranger Used To Be My Girl”.
Although he’s written and scored films, has been nominated for “Clios” for his work in commercials, and received praise for his productions of B.B.King, including the Grammy winning, “Live at San Quentin Album”, his passion for self-expression remains at an all time high as he continues to perform regularly and write and record on a daily basis.

When we reconnected a couple of   years ago, I became more accutely aware of the part he and his guitar played in the hit making process of some of greatest record producers of our time including Phil Spector, Leiber and Stoller, Bert Berns, Jeff Barry and Ellie Greenwich, Carole King and Gerry Goffin, Jerry Ross, Jerry Wexler and Burt Bacharach. I didn’t know Trade played on, “Cherry, Cherry”, By Neil Diamond, “Chapel Of Love” by the Dixie Cups, “Twist and Shout” by the Isley Brothers, as well dozens of others he casually rattled off.

As I scrambled to turn my tape recorder on, I started to ask him questions about what I thought everyone might want to know.

AW- The stories about Phil Spector working at Gold Star on Hollywood are legendary, but very little is known about his sessions in New York. How did you first get together with Phil?
TM- I was working at the time with Jeff and Ellie, Carole King and Gerry Goffin, Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil and Phil Spector’s contractor heard about me and called me up. He said Phil wanted to meet me, so I made an appointment to see him up at Liberty records. You recorded for Liberty didn’t you?AW- (Laughs) Yeah, briefly. That’s where I met Phil too…he was on the A+R staff.
TM- The contractor told me to bring my guitar to the meeting, so I brought my white fender guitar.
AW- Did you bring an amplifier…or did he have one?
TM- No…no ( laughs) You could hardly hear the sound, but if you listened close enough you could hear it. I didn’t know it at the time, but Phil was a guitar player himself and he studied with Barney Kessel.
AW- Phil played the guitar solo on the Drifters record, “On Broadway”
TM- Right! I caught him playin’ in the studio one day…you know a lot of jazzy stuff. I was a Jazz oriented guitar player myself.
AW- Tell me more about your meeting.
TM- I remember him sitting behind a big desk, and I was on a couch across from him. Our whole meeting wasn’t longer than 6 or 7 minutes. As I pulled out my guitar, he asked what kind of stuff I liked to play? I told him that I played in a night club, and I knew all the solos by Scotty Moore, Carl Perkins…guys like that. At that point he asked, If I knew the intro to “Maybelline” by Chuck Berry? I smiled, and started playing it. He said I’d be hearing from his contractor.
AW- Which you obviously did.
TM- I played on almost every session he did in New York. He found out that I had this D28 Martin Herringbone Dreadnaught acoustic guitar and after he heard it, he always wanted me to play it on his sessions. I specifically remember one session I played it on it, it was at Mirasound with Brooks Arthur engineering. Phil usually used 2 or 3 pianos on his dates. on this one, Carole King was on an upright piano, as I remember, Paul Griffin was on a grand piano and Jerry, Phil’s contractor, was on another.
AW- And what song was this?
TM- “He Hit Me And It Felt Like A Kiss” by the Crystals
AW-Wow!

LA LA BROOKS FROM THE CRYSTALS AND PHIL SPECTOR… TO HEAR “HE HIT ME” CLICK ONTO http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ebDCRFSJzzU

TM- Phil wanted me to play 16th notes all the way through the track, fortunately I play the drums, so I was able keep that rhythm up! I used to sit right in front of Gary Chester who played drums on most of Phil’s dates.
AW- Gary’s one of the most innovative drummers I ever worked with…you could recognize him on every record he played on!
TM- He’s the best…and what a nice guy!
AW- I’ve been to a couple of overdubbing sessions of Phils but never a tracking session. Tell me more…who were the other musicians?
TM- There was Carl Lynch and Al Gorgoni on Electric Guitar, Billy Butler on another electric and percussionist, George Devins.

AW- And on bass?
TM- Bob Bushnell was on electric and Russ Savakus or Dick Romoff was on stand up. Phil always liked to use two basses on his tracks.
AW- I worked with all those guys, but I never knew that they were the foundation of the “Wall of Sound”…Great musicians and incredible positive vibes! I heard that once a track was done, Phil would have the musicians double it…to give it his signature sound.
TM- I’ve heard he did things like that…but never on any session I’ve been on.
AW – Did you notice any unusual recording techniques?
TM- One day I walked into the studio and Phil, who could be a little off the wall, as you know (laughs), was listening to a playback the control room at full volume. Outside of the glass, Brooks had placed two Neuman mikes which he was recording on two of the master tracks, as it was playing back. They were trying to get as much sound through the glass as they could…which would later be mixed in with the basic tracks! It sounded like a “Live” digital delay. He was a very innovative guy! Sometimes he’d try something that didn’t work…but that would never stop him from always trying something new!
AW- And Brooks was there to capture it…encouraging Phil to go farther.
TM- Exactly!
AW- After the basic tracks were done were you called back to do any overdubbing?
TM- No, Phil got everything he wanted from the musicians on the basics and probably only overdubbed strings and horns…maybe some little percussion things like maracas or castanets, at a later time.
AW- Yeah…They all sound so isolated…adding another dimension to his records! Another brick in the “Wall Of Sound” Did you ever do any work with him at Olmstead studios?
TM- The only place I ever worked in with Phil was Mirasound.
AW- And the engineer was always Brooks?
TM- Yes.
AW- What other of Phil’s hits did you play on?
TM- I remember playing on a lot of Crystals records…but I didn’t play on “Uptown”. Whenever he’d do a session in New York, I was on the date. Most of his biggest hits, like “Be My Baby” with the Ronnettes, were cut in California.
AW- Yes, at Gold Star. Since he was recording on both coasts at the same time, my guess is he chose the place that could best capture the mood of the songs. “He Hit Me And It Felt Like a Kiss” sounds like it needed the edginess of New York musicians.
TM- Not to mention that he could get one of the composers (Carole King) to play piano on the date! I remember there was a lot of controversy when that song came out. Most of the time I didn’t even know what song we were doing…we were handed chord sheets and just concentrated on making the tracks.
AW- That’s wild!
TM – I never even heard the finished record until it had become a hit!
AW- Trade…Thanks for this impromptu interview. I know you’ve got to run off to a session.
TM- My pleasure…anytime!

I’VE BEEN GETTING A LOT OF RESPONSES TO MY ARTICLE ABOUT ELVIS PRESLEY, “ALLEGEDLY SAYING, “ALL COLORED PEOPLE CAN DO FOR ME IS SHINE MY SHOES AND BUY MY RECORDS”…HERE’S ONE OF THOSE RESPONSES! FROM GARY THEROUX…

Hi, Artie.

A lot of crap has been written about Elvis over the years and I am surprised that you actually ever believed Presley said that “all colored people” line.  I have conducted exhaustive research into Elvis’ life and career (resuling in multiple broadcast specials, books, etc.) and have uncovered absolutely no evidence of Elvis ever uttering a single racist comment.  Some of the most absurd rumors invented early in Presley’s career were quoted to “the most controversial name in show business” by Hy Gardner in their famous July 1, 1956 TV interview (“what about the rumor that you once shot your mother…”).  Elvis was incredulous but patient with the sneering, condescending (and now almost otaaly forgotten) newspaper columnist.  See the interview here:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gtn_4gRS7Rg

By the way, you mention Elvis performing multiple shows in Raleigh, NC on February 6, 1956.  According to Lee Cotton’s 1985 book “Elvis Day By Day,” Presley was actually about 80 miles away in Greenboro. NC on that date, performing one show at 8 PM in the National Theatre.

GARY…I’M EMBARRASSED THAT IT TOOK ME SO LONG TO REALIZE THE TRUTH, BU T THAT  STATEMENT WAS CONSIDERED FAC T IN THE GHETTO WHERE I GREW UP. ON THE DAY ELVIS DIED, MY FRIEND, SCOTT SHANNON (TRUE OLDIES CHANNEL) CAME OVER TO THE HOUSE AND EXPLAINED  TO ME WHAT I SHOULD’VE KNOWN ALL ALONG. https://artiewayne.wordpress.com/tag/elvis-rock-in-perpetuity/

YOU WERE CORRECT AS FAR THE DATES OF THE ELVIS SHOWS. THE SHOWS THAT HUNTER GEORGE MENTIONED HAPPENED TWO DAYS LATER…CLICK ON TO VERIFY  http://www.elvis.net/live/liv56.html

“At concerts, some women toss undergarments at heartthrob singers, but when Jay Siegel performs, they toss stuffed lions. Known more by his voice than by his name, Siegel and his group, The Tokens, topped the charts 50 years ago with his distinct falsetto on the classic mega-hit, ‘The Lion Sleeps Tonight’. Now at the age of 72, Jay resides in Rockland County, NY, where he has turned his garage into a make-shift museum of his career. He loves the work he does as he’s still touring today and yes, he can still sing in the same key as he did when he was just a teenager.”

Frances Preston Dies; Pioneering Former President of BMI

CONDOLENCES TO THE FAMILY AND FRIENDS OF FRANCIS PRESTON, FORMER CEO OF BMI

Frances Preston - P 2012
Paul Hawthorne/Getty Images
By Eric Pederson for the Hollywood Reporter

UPDATED: The Country Music Hall of Famer spent more than half a century with the performing rights group, leading it for 18 years, and was a force in Washington and tireless humanitarian…

Frances Preston, a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame and former president and CEO of BMI, died June 13 of congestive heart failure at her home in Nashville. She was 83.

The woman Kris Kristofferson once called “the songwriter’s guardian angel” led the performing rights group from 1986 to 2004. Fortune called Preston “one of the true powerhouses of the pop music business,” and she often is credited with coining the Nashvile songwriter’s creed, “It all begins with a song.”

Born on Aug. 27, 1928, in Nashville, Preston began her career as a receptionist at WSM-AM Nashville. She rose quickly through the station’s ranks, eventually hosting her own fashion show.

She joined BMI in 1958, when she was hired to launch a Southern regional office in Nashville. She was named vp in 1964, reportedly becoming the first female corporate executive in Tennessee. In 1985, she rose to senior vp performing rights and moved to offices in New York before taking the top post at BMI the following year.

Preston also had a strong presence on Capitol Hill. She lobbied for songwriters’ rights, championing such initiatives as the Copyright Amendments Act of 1992, which extended copyright protection to older compositions, and the extension of the copyright term to the life of the composer plus 70 years. Earlier, she served on the Panama Canal Study Committee and on the commission for the White House Record Library during the Carter administration. And during the mid-’90s, she was a member of Vice President Al Gore’s National Information Infrastructure Advisory Council.

THANKS FOR T HE ALERT KAREN !

I WANT TO LEAVE YOU WITH SOME THOUGHTS WITH HUNTER GEORGE…

THE VIEW FROM MY PORCH

HUNTER GEORGE

June 7, 2012

Sitting on my porch has always been a comfort to me. I have been fortunate to have front porches in most of the places I have lived. There is a special peace that comes from sitting on your front porch in your favorite rocker of an evening, being carressed by a warm breeze, listening to crickets and watching lightning bugs flash their lights as they float across the lawn. It gives a person opportunity to think and delve into the mysteries of life.

Tonight I puzzled on why so many people forgot about D Day, which happened 68 years ago, on June 6, 1944. A few people as well as I, posted things on Facebook, but I was amazed at the lack of response from my friends to what I posted. Anyone who watched the movie “Saving Private Ryan” got what I think was a tiny taste of the terror of war. I tried to picture in my mind being on a landing craft as the gate fell and you just start running into Hell on Earth. You run on fear and guts. You are in red water and stepping in guts, and you make it to something that protects you, or maybe you find you’re laying in the sand with no legs…….or if you are lucky there is suddenly silence and the blackness of death.

In 1995 I wrote a poem after watching programs on D-Day and the end of World War II. I hope you like it.

REFLECTIONS AFTER FIFTY YEARS

All material is copyrighted 1995-2012 Henry H. George

Fifty years of silence, beginning to fade.

They speak for those who cannot speak from the grave.

I see them on programs about D-Day, VE-Day and VJ-Day.

They try to speak of the unspeakable

That they have lived with for fifty years or more,

And as they try to talk now, for the first time,

They falter, their voices fall silent;

as tears fall down emotion wracked faces

For comrades they saw die those long years ago.

I was just a child when they went off to war.

They finally came home and started families,

Friends and neighbors who are with us today.

But I, like they, wonder about families never started

Who might have been my friends today

They say they are not heroes, and maybe that is true,

But I bow to them all in homage,

Both the living and the dead,

As wrapped in fear and terror, they fought

That I would be free.

I have been honored to kneel at the wall

And touch the name of a childhood friend;

And though not knowing any of those asleep

For half a century or more,

Stood among the thousands in the Cambridge-American

Cemetery in England, tears filling my eyes

For those who had fallen for me.

I always knew if I ever got the chance,

I would go where they are

To honor them and say a prayer

That could not be said as a child.

To those of you who yet live, I hope you will understand

That just as you can’t find the words to speak

Of what you lived through,

I will never find the words to express my feelings

Of thankfulness and respect for you.

It is here in my heart and in tears

On a far away grave.

Neil Diamond sent a tweet out yesterday about  the passing of our friend, drummer, Dennis St. John. “Lost  my old friend, Dennis St.John his drumming graces my recordings from “Hot August Nights” to “The Jazz Singer”…I’ll miss him big time”

BEFORE DENNIS WAS NEIL’S MUSICAL DIRECTOR IN THE SEVENTIES HE WAS PART OF THE ATLANTA RYTHYM SECTION AND PLAYED ON “I NEVER PROMISED YOU A ROSE GARDEN”, ‘WALK A MILE IN MY SHOES”, “SHEILAH”, AND DOZENS MORE! HE ALSO PLAYED ON “LET YOUR LOVE FLOW BY THE BELLAMY BROTHERS, AND THE CLASSIC “DESPERADO” BY LINDA RONDSTAT.

I WAS PROUD TO HAVE DENNIS ST. JOHN IN MY RYTHYM SECTION WHEN I STARTED TO PRODUCE RECORDS IN LA…BUT EVEN PROUDER, AS TIME WENT BY, TO CALL HIM MY FRIEND.

DENNIS ST. JOHN,  R.I.P. MAY YOU ROCK IN PERPETUITY!

IT’S WITH GREAT SADNESS THAT I ANNOUNCE THE PASSING OF ONE OF THE GREATEST MASTERING ENGINEERS OF OUR GENERATION, GEORGE MARINO, WHO WAS ALSO THE LOVNG HUSBAND OF MY LONG TIME FRIEND ROSE GROSS-MARINO.

R.I.P George Marino, Legendary NYC Mastering Engineer

June 4, 2012 by

It saddens us to report that legendary NYC mastering engineer George Marino passed away today, according to a statement from Sterling Sound:

“Today Sterling Sound and the music industry as a whole has suffered a tremendous loss. Senior Mastering Engineer George Marino lost his battle with cancer this morning. Words cannot express the sorrow we feel. George was family to us all and we will miss him dearly.”

George Marino at Sterling in 2009

Marino had a tremendous career, as illustrated by a long and legendary discography that includes such classic albums as Stevie Wonder’s Innervisions, AC/DC’s Highway to Hell, John Lennon & Yoko Ono’s Double Fantasy, Bon Jovi’s Slippery When Wet, Guns N’ Roses “Appetite for Destruction”, Metallica’s “Black Album”, Coldplay’s A Rush of Blood to the Head, and his latest of three career Grammy wins – Arcade Fire’s 2011 “Album of the Year”, The Suburbs.

He has been a mainstay of the NYC recording community going back to the early 70s at the Record Plant, and then to Sterling Sound in 1973. Marino had been with Sterling ever since, for nearly 40 years – helping to build the company into one of the world’s premier mastering facilities.

For one of SonicScoop’s very first features back in 2009, we had the pleasure of meeting Marino and touring the at-the-time newly modified ATR tape machine that had enabled all-analog vinyl mastering at Sterling. We were taken not only by Marino’s passion for crafting superb sounding records and his enthusiasm for vinyl and the format’s revival, but also by his friendly, humble and patient demeanor. His explanation made a highly technical process come to life.

He was one of the best…and he will be missed.

IF YOU HEARD 9/11 WAS ABOUT TO HAPPEN AND DID NOTHING TO TRYAND PREVENT IT, HOW WOULD YOU FEEL? IF YOU CLICK ONTO A FIVE YEAR OLD ARTICLE OF MINE THAT SUDDENLY IS GETTING HUNDREDS OF HITS, AND SCROLL DOWN THE PAGE…YOU’LL FIND COMMENTS BY PEOPLE WHO DON’T KNOW HOW TO WRITE VERY WELL ENGLISH, TALKING TO EACH OTHER IN SOME KIND OF CODE.

When Sunny Smith a/k/a Sunny Monday, told me that she went to read an article I wrote some time ago about a mutual friend of ours Sissy Spacek, whom I discovered Sunny wrote me, ” Artie, What’s happened to your site? Who is product? Who is joe mignogna? What do their comments have to do with the song that Sissy recorded under the name Rainbo, “JOHN YOU WENT TOO FAR THIS TIME?” https://artiewayne.wordpress.com/2006/08/18/the-naked-truth-about-john-lennon-and-yoko-ono-and-an-outraged-sissy-spacek/

I looked at the 50 comments that were made at the bottom of my article and realized that something very serious was possibly going on…i just didn’t know what! Then I saw a show on CNN on how rebels were able to bring down the Egyptian gorvrnment by using coded messages to each other on FACEBOOK and TWITTER and I figured out what all of this all might mean!

When my computer crashed and I wasn’t able to warn anybody about what I stumbled across, i contacted my friends Trade Martin, Hunter George, and Sharon Link to contact my FACEBOOK FRIENDS in my name about the possible threat to America.

.

The first person to respond was Antoinette  Butrico-Gino, who contacted the FBI and Homeland Security who gave her a number and said she’d be contacted. It’s been 48 hours and no one has tried to reach her. Then I got a comment from someone who thought I was trying to plug something, as well as someone else I’ve known for over 40 years, who wrote, ” Artie, sorry I had to take this post down. Nudity and the stupidity of The Lennon nude period just can’t be tolerated at a Family friendly Facebook page.”

Obviously missing the point of the possible danger as well as foolishly calling it ” a Family friendly FACEBOOK page”, I wrote him back, “Your ignorence is astonishing…I just unfriended you”

Then after reading a few more comments, I realized that perhaps I should make my suspicions a little clearer…

Linda Albu – WHAT DATES can you give a REFERENCE POINT IN YOUR BLOG COMMENTS so we can FIND what you are talking about please…???? It’s a LONG BLOG.

Artie- ABOUT HALFWAY DOWN THE COMMENTS PEOPLE WITH 5 OR 6 NUMBERS AFTER THEIR NAMES SEEM TO BE COMMUNICATING WITH EACH OTHER IN SOME KIND OF CODE. STARTING WITH MORGAN SILVER MARCH 9 2012

Linda -Yes I noticed that, Artie. I understand that no activity was happening on this blog of yours for 5 years, then suddenly the ‘numbered’ comments started to get hit?

Artie – NO I HAVE OVER 2 MILLION VIEWS ON MY BLOG…THEN FOR NO APPARENT REASON THAT ARTICLE STARTS GETTING HIT! https://artiewayne.wordpress.com/2012/04/10/celebrating-two-million-views-today-on-artie-wayne-on-the

From Mona Lidji Fishman  – I will try to get this to authorities Artie Wayne, they do sound suspicious!! Good observation!! OK, posted on FBI site with details of what to look for & names of suspicious people. Went to DHS, looked all over just to find that it says notify the FBI, so we’re covered Artie Wayne ♥ You are still the man!!!!!

HOPEFULLY YOU WILL SEE WHAT WE’VE SEEN AND WILL CONTACT HOMELAND SECURITY AS WELL  http://www.dhs.gov/xutil/contactus.shtm

WE ALL FEEL THAT WE COULD NEVER BE TRICKED BY AN INTERNET SCAM, BUT IT HAPPENS EVERYDAY.  I REMEMBER WINNING $10,000,000 IN EUROPEAN LOTTERY, AND INHEIRITNG  ANOTHER MILLION FROM SOMEONE I DIDN’T KNOW IN AFRICA, ALL IN THE SAME DAY.

TODAY INTERNET SCAM ARTISTS WILL POSE AS LEGITIMATE COMPANIES USING REAL LOGOS AND REAL LOOKING URLS TO GET ENOUGH  PERSONAL INFORMATION TO BE ABLE TO STEAL YOUR IDENTITY!

THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED A COUPLE OF DAYS AGO TO MY FRIEND ACTRESS, BUNNY GIBSON, WHO WAS AN ORIGINAL “AMERICAN BANDSTAND” DANCER.

Hi Artie,

Okay,  here is the whole truth and nothing but the truth!

I was busy at the computer when I open an email from “AOL” saying that it is URGENT that I update my account with them to continue getting emails.
That was enough to get my attention and I replied to the email giving my account name and “Password”.  Yes, I gave my password.

Now, I’ve heard of a lot of scams and thought they would never get to me.  After I filled out the page asking for my password, I pressed “continue” and on the next page they were asking me to update all my info……including credit card info, date of birth, etc.

Now, I am proud to say, I was now concerned and suspicious and thought that I would talk to my Webmaster first before I gave information (which I don’t like to do anyhow).  No more than 10 minutes later, I started getting returned emails –  emails were being returned to my site that no longer worked when they hacked my whole email list.

I changed my “password”……and, I guess good comes out of everything.  As I have heard from people I haven’t seen or talked to in years!  And, I had the pleasure of reassuring the men in my life that I know that they are all  “Studs” and really didn’t need the Viagra! – I’ve been hacked!!!

My friend later informed me that the “URL” address must always contain an “s” meaning that it is a “secure” site.

On to the the next day’s adventure……signing off this email,

Musicians honor “Doc” Watson’s influence

By MARTHA WAGGONER, Associated Press

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — You could hear the mountains of North Carolina in “Doc” Watson’s music. The rush of a mountain stream, the steady creak of a mule in leather harness plowing rows in topsoil and the echoes of ancient sounds made by a vanishing people were an intrinsic part of the folk musician’s powerful, homespun sound.

It took Watson decades to make a name for himself outside the world of Deep Gap, N.C. Once he did, he ignited the imaginations of countless guitar players who learned the possibilities of the instrument from the humble picker who never quite went out of style. From the folk revival of the 1960s to the Americana movement of the 21st century, Watson remained a constant source of inspiration and a treasured touchstone before his death Tuesday at age 89.

Blind from the age of 1, Watson was left to listen to the world around him and it was as if he heard things differently from others. Though he knew how to play the banjo and harmonica from an early age, he came to favor the guitar. His flat-picking style helped translate the fiddle- and mandolin-dominated music of his forebears for an audience of younger listeners who were open to the tales that had echoed off the mountains for generations, for the rest of the article click onto  http://www.wral.com/entertainment/story/11151047/

MY FRIEND HUNTER GEORGE ASKED IF I COULD MAKE A TRIBUTE TO MOUNTAIN AND FOLK  MUSIC LEGEND “DOC” WATSON, WHO PASSED AWAY THIS WEEK…I SAID, “HUNTER I COULD…BUT WHY DON’T YOU?”

“DOC” WATSON R.I.P.  MAY YOU ROLL IN PERPETUITY!

I never met Doc Watson, but I knew his music well. Anyone who grew up in North Carolina and particularly in the mountains knew Doc’s music. It wasn’t Bluegrass music. It was traditional mountain music plus whatever else Doc wanted to play. I will let my son Ryan help me finish this as he met Doc and said it well.

“From my Son Ryan George: I’m going to leave you all with one final Doc Watson song in my little tribute to his life and music, a song I think very fitting to finish with. You see, Doc was a Godly man with a strong faith. He was proud of his faith and lived his life as he thought God would’ve wanted him to. Hope you enjoy it…. Doc, I’ve enjoyed your music. RIP.”
