Congratulations to Randy Newman, for winning the Academy Award for the best song of the year. Considering that he has had 20 Best Song nominations and only two wins, it sounds like the Academy honored him for his entire body of work and not for the dismal song that actually won.

I know that “Toy Story 3”is one of the biggest franchises in history, and Randy Newman is one of our greatest film composers, but let’s get real is “You Belong To Me” worthy of winning an Academy Award?

The musical highlight of the show came at the very end when kids from P.S.22 in Staten Island NY sang a brilliant version of, “Somewhere Over The Rainbow”, while all of the Academy Award Winners came back onstage!

Irwin Pincus was not only a good guy…he gave publishers a good name! In the early ‘60s when I was wandering the halls of 1650 Broadway looking for a home, Irwin Pincus always made me feel welcome. In fact, he always made me feel that the next song could be my first hit!

He, his father George, and Brother Lee owned George Pincus and Sons music an independent publisher whose catalog included “Old Cape Cod”, “Calcutta”, “Itsy Bitsy Bikini”, “Taste Of Honey”, “100 pounds of Clay”, and “She Loves You”, was right down the hall from Paul Vance (“Catch A Falling Star”), whom I was writing with at the time.

Their offices always seemed to a hotbed of activity from creative exchanges with writers Jeff Barry(“Tell Laura I Love Her”), Artie Resnick (“Good Lovin”), Ellie Greenwich (“Be My Baby”, , and Bobby Scott (“Taste of Honey”, “He Ain’t Heavy He’s My Brother” to being a home away from home to some of the top record producers at the time Shelby Singleton, Mercury Records, Snuff Garret Liberty Records, and Jimmy Bowen Reprise records.

It’s no surprise that when I started collaborating with Ben Raleigh (“Wonderful, Wonderful”, “Love Is A Hurtin’ Thing”), one of the first songs we placed was, “Laugh and The World Laughs With You” with Irwin who got Jack Scott (“My Own True Love”) to ride it up the country charts.

Although we never did any further business we remained friendly until we eventually lost touch. I’ll always remember him and his good natured smile as a man who was always there when you needed him.

Irwin Pincus R.I.P. ROCK IN PERPETUITY!

Respectfully, Artie Wayne

IMPROVE MEMORY FAST!

February 25, 2011

A “Baby Boomer” friend of mine called me last week and told me she was terrified of taking a written test at the DMV. Although she studied, she kept failing their sample tests due to her short term memory loss. Then I showed her a simple method to remember things that helped her to pass the test easily!

I told her to use the same technique I showed her before how to reduce stress and anxiety called the “2- 2- 5” which was taught to me by Henry Mundt who was an expert on Deep Relaxation.

The 2-2-5” is a simple breathing exercise that I continue to use everyday when I need to relieve stress, anxiety, and to remember things.

1. (Inhale) hold your breath for a count of Two………1…………….2………….(Exhale)

(Inhale) hold your breath for a count of Two

………1…………….2…………. (Exhale)

(Inhale) this time hold your breath for a count of Five
1………….2………..3…………4…………5……… (Exhale)

2. Repeat this sequence called the 2-2-5 again

(Inhale) hold your breath for a count of Two………1…………….2………….(Exhale)

(Inhale) hold your breath for a count of Two………1…………….2………….(Exhale)

(Inhale) this time hold your breath for a count of Five
1………….2………..3…………4…………5……….(Exhale)

I told her that if she did a few of these “2-2-5s before she studied the DMV manual, that she would retain what she needed to know. She followed my simple instructions and only missed three questions!

Next week I’ll show you other ways to restore “Long Lost Memories!

Regards, Artie

ALL THE GRAMMY WINNERS 2011!

February 14, 2011

My biggest complaint about the GRAMMY telecast has always been about the artists who seem to there just to sing and promote their latest release that sometimes leaves you wondering, how the hell did they get nominated in the first place?

I have a long history with the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, from being a member in the 60′s to sitting on the Board of Governors for several years in the ‘70s. The 53rd annual GRAMMY Awards gave the trophies to the right people, for their outstanding recordings, but did little to showcase them properly on TV.

I should have known when I saw Christina Aguilera, Florence and the Machine’s Florence Welch, Jennifer Hudson, Martina McBride, and Yolanda Adams, lined up to perform a Tribute to Aretha Franklyn, what started out great, would turn into an “OUTSINGING” contest!

To try to explain the rest of the show is, “Like trying  to tell a stranger ‘bout Rock and Roll”! so take a look for your self at the good, the bad, and the funky!

“After being on the Bruno Mars bandwagon, I’ve been having second thoughts. His latest #1 “Grenade” and has been playing involuntarily in my mind since I heard it. It promotes suicide as the ultimate expression of love. A conspiracy of creativity without much thought of the consequences.”

IF “GRENADE” DOESN’T APPEAR ON THE ABOVE SCREEN CLICK HERE. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SR6iYWJxHqs

GRENADE: by Bruno Mars, Philip Lawrence, and Ari Levine

Easy come, easy go…That’s just how you live
Oh, take, take, take it all …but you never give
Should’ve known you was trouble from the first kiss
Had your eyes wide open…why were they open?

Gave you all I had , but you tossed it in the trash
You tossed it in the trash, yes you did
To give me all your love is all I ever asked
‘Cause what you don’t understand is …

CHORUS:

I’d catch a grenade for you

Throw my hand on a blade for you
I’d jump in front of a train for you
You know I’d do anything for you
Listen, baby, I would go through all this pain
Take a bullet straight through my brain
Yes, I would die for you, baby
But you won’t do the same

Black, black, black and blue beat me ’til I’m numb
Tell the Devil I said, “Hey” When you get back to where you’re from
Mad woman, bad woman,,, that’s just what you are
Yeah, you’d smile in my face and rip the brakes out my car

Gave you all I had , but you tossed it in the trash
You tossed it in the trash, yes you did
To give me all your love is all I ever asked
‘Cause what you don’t understand is …

CHORUS

BRIDGE:

If my body was on fire
You’d watch me burn down in flames
You said you loved me

You’re a liar
‘Cause you never, ever, ever did, baby

I’d catch a grenade for you

Throw my hand on a blade for you
I’d jump in front of a train for you
You know I’d do anything for you
Listen, baby, I would go through all this pain
Take a bullet straight through my brain
Yes, I would die for you, baby
But you won’t do the same

Even though I kept singing it over and over in my head for the past month, it’s only been in the last 48 hours that I realized that “GRENADE” is not only is it the most violent pop song I’ve ever heard, it’s also the first hit song in decades to advocate suicide in a romantic  way!

I’ve always been a promoter of free speech and an artist’s right to express themselves but when a song is so catchy, and repeated often enough subliminally lodged in our psyche where it can influence our rational thinking.

As a self-appointed “New Elder” I’m doing what I can promote positive attitudes in our society, my opinion of seven times Grammy nominated Bruno Mars has changed from being one of the most talented producer/ songwriter/singers in the business to the “Most Dangerous Man in Pop Music!”

He and his co-writers, Philip Lawrence, a singer and songwriter, and sound engineer Ari Levine are collectively called the Smeezingtons and have written and produced hit after hit with artists like “Travie” McCoy “BILLIONAIRE”, B.o.B. ””NUTHIN’ ON YOU”, and Cee-lo Greene’s, over the top, “F@#K YOU!”

I can understand pushing the creative envelope, but on “GRENADE” Bruno actually promotes suicide as the ultimate expression of love. A conspiracy of creativity without much thought of the consequences.

Isn’t it time that artists become more responsible for what they’re feeding their audiences and the unsuspecting public, especially when it might trigger violence, or at the very least, condone self-destructive behavior?

As a former member on the Board of Governors of NARAS, I wonder how all of this will affect Bruno’s chances of sweeping The Grammys? All over the internet, everyone is weighing in…What do you think?

The first time I tried DMSO (Dimethyl Sulfoxide) was 40 years ago when it was being touted as miracle drug and used by coaches on injured athletes who were sent right back into play.

I knew it wasn’t approved by the Food and Drug administration, and only used as a solvent or a rub-in liniment for animals, but I used it anyway. I’ve suffered from scoliosis (curvature of the spine) since I was a kid and it helped the chronic pain in my back, neck and hands.

As I got older DMSO reduced the swelling around my joints and allowed me greater freedom of movement. I recommended it to my grandmother who was suffering from arthritis and she got immediate relief. A foreman on the ranch of a friend of mine swears he was cured of arthritis by the “Miracle Mixture. I gave some to my aunt, when she broke her arm and her doctor smiled and admitted that she healed twice as fast when she rubbed it on herself.

With so many positive results that I’ve experienced personally with DMSO and who knows how many hundreds of thousands of other people that have been helped, why hasn’t the FDA approved the use DMSO it in humans?

In 1996 my scoliosis had gotten worse and I had to have a spinal operation to keep my spine from fusing together. That’s when I became addicted to 3500 units a day of Vicodin and inhaled steroids for many years. When the doctors wanted to teach me to inject morphine to stop the unimaginable pain, I put an abrupt stop to my deadly roller coaster ride.

I didn’t know that quitting cold turkey would make me temporarily lose my memory, but after a while I regained it, and started using deep meditation to go below my pain level, but forgot about DMSO.

Recently, when I was told I’d never walk again and lost the use of my hands I thought about trying DMSO. Ten days ago I started using it …and now I’m opening and closing my hands!

I don’t know how far my own experiments will take me, but why hasn’t the FDA approved the use of it in humans to find out? My guess is it’s because the drug manufacturers can’t control it, it costs very little to make and bottle of 99.9% pure DMSO costs the consumer as little as $10!

I will continue to use it, and report on the effects here. For more information contact DMSO,inc. at 1-800- 387- 6935

** Special Note: DMSO is intended for use as a solvent only. DMSO passes through the skin readily and is used as a carrier solvent to transport other substances through the skin. The choice of the process used in the various applications is the sole responsibility of the user. It is unlawful to represent in any way that the product is useful or safe to use for medicinal purposes. **

Here is a paper I read on DMSO that shows some results of recent studies by Dr. Stanley Jacob. http://www.dmso.org/articles/information/jacob.htm
