PREMIER CARE OR PREMIER SCARE CENTER?

June 2, 2014

ANG WHEN  I LOST THE USE OF MY LEGS AND HANDS I MOVED INTO THE PREMIER CARE CENTER IN PALM SPRINGS WHERE I’M TAKEN CARE OF 24 HOURS A DAY. I’VE BEEN HERE FOR A YEAR AND UP UNTIL RECENTLY HAVE BEEN WELL TREATED.

I’M IN A ROOM FOR THREE LONG TERM RESIDENTS WHO PAY  $75,000 A YEAR EACH WITH THE HELP OF MEDI-CARE AND MED-ICAL. A FEW MONTHS AFTER I  MOVED INTO MY ROOM, THEY TOLD ME THAT I WAS GOING TO GET A NEW ROOMATE  WHO WAS  VERY QUIET AND WASN’T EXPECTED TO OCCUPY THE ROOM VERY LONG. THEY WERE RIGHT…A FEW WEEKS LATER HE DIED AND I FOUND HIS BODY DANGLING OUT OF THE BED NEXT TO MINE! I STILL DON’T KNOW WHY IT TOOK HOURS AND HOURS TO REMOVE THE REMAINS…WHILE I LAY CRYING QUIETLY FREAKING OUT!

NEEDLESS TO SAY, I WAS   TRAUMATIZED BY THIS INCIDENT, BUT I BELIEVED IN THE KINDNESS OF THE NURSES AND NURSES AIDS , EVEN THOUGH NO ONE CAME TO COMFORT ME FROM THE FACILITY. TO STAY POSITIVE, I VOLUNTEERED TO HELP MY FRIENDS IN  ACTIVITIES AND CRAFTS TO CONDUCT MORNING EXCERSIZE  CLASSES SIX DAYS A WEEK, I ALSO GOT THE READERS OF MY BLOG, “ARTIE WAYNE ON THE WEB ” TO DONATE PAINT AND T SHIRTS, SO I COULD TEACH THE RESIDENTS HOW TO PAINT! Joe Klein Artie this is horrible…..especially the part about the facility putting a string of dying patients in your room! This must be emotionally and spiritually devastating! I don’t know what to suggest to make things better. You’re pretty much caught between a rock and a hard place here. The government is paying all, or most, of the facility’s charges and trying to get them to act…..or withhold payments…..is probably impossible. Trying yourself to get action is filled with huge hurdles as well that you may not be able to conquer, as the facility most likely looks upon anything you want done to cost them money they don’t want to spend. And, finally (and maybe the worst of all) is if the employees and management of the facility feel threatened or challenged by your making all of this public online, there’s the frightening possibility of serious retribution against you, making matters even worse! Holey cow, this is just awful. What you need is a good friend to act as your care advocate who will try to get things done.

Arlene Lubman Brief A lawyer or Priest may be able to come and talk some sense into them. They need to go directly to the Administrator, no one else has the authority to do anything. And if need be, the State should be notified since all facilities are ultimately run by the State and they have very strict rules…and the last thing the facilities want are complaints made to the State. They are rated and these ratings are posted on the computer. When people are looking to place a family member into a home, more than likely they check out the ratings….Artie, you just need someone who knows how to talk well and can “make things happen”!

Linda Shell Call your local ombudsman. He/she will be your advocate and liaison.

  2. Prayer is the most powerful ally we have. You are in my prayers, and God will hear your cries. Hopefully the manager will look into it as promised. In the meantime look within as to what you can find of worth in this matter. I am sorry you have to go through this, still everything we go through helps us – whether we see it in the moment or not.
    With you in spirit, love,
    Patti

OK, but seriously, folks…..I’m glad we had a chance to talk. You sound wonderful considering what you’ve had to put up with lately.
I’ll be making a call or two.

We are all just a shout away.

Thank you for putting me under your wing when I walked in the room.

    Don
